Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday smashed Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s 11-year-old record of the highest total in Indian Premier League when they scored 277 runs against Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. RCB held the record for more than a decade, having scored 263 runs against the now-extinct Pune Warriors in 2013. After Sunrisers Hyderabad smashed their record, RCB took to social media to compliment the Hyderabad franchise using puns to congratulate them on achieving the feat.
SRH smash MI all around the park
SRH was on song against 5-time champions Mumbai Indians right from the start. Travis Head started the onslaught along with Abhishek Sharma. The former finished on 62 of 24 balls while the latter scored 63 from 23 balls. Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen took over after Head and Abhishek. Markram remained not out on 42 of 28 balls while Klaasen smashed 80 from 34 balls. Courtesy of the power-hitters, SRH finished their innings on 277/3.
RCB congratulate SRH in their own unique way
RCB took to X (previously Twitter) to congratulate the SRH side on breaking their record. They did so in a pun-filled manner, using SRH batters’ names to get their message across.
“Our Head’s spinning 🤯 Klass innings! Congratulations on setting a new bench-mark! Sharmao Mat, records are meant to be broken. Well done, @SunRisers,” RCB wrote on X.
