Shardul Thakur rushed to hospital amid Irani Cup
As per the report, Shardul Thakur’s mild fever from Day 1 had aggrevated on Day 2 while he batted along with Sarfaraz Khan for a couple of hours. The all-rounder managed to score 36 runs off 59 deliveries, helping Mumbai pile up more runs along with Sarfaraz. The report stated that Thakur was kept under observation for the entire Wednesday night and added that the doctors would take a call on whether he could take the field on Day 3 or not.
“He was not feeling well for the entire day and was running on high fever, which was the main reason he came out to bat late. He was feeling weak and he slept in the dressing room after taking medicine. But he wanted to bat despite feeling low. We have got his blood test done for malaria and dengue. We are waiting for the results. Till then, he will spend the night in hospital,” a source told The Indian Express.

Shardul Thakur made his return to competitive cricket in the Irani Cup after being on the sidelines following an ankle surgery earlier this year. Having made his Test debut for India in 2018, the all-rounder is eyeing to make his comeback to the Indian side via his performances in the upcoming domestic season. Despite being injured, Shardul was a part of the Ranji Trophy-winning Mumbai team earlier this year, making some handy contributions with both bat and ball.
Shardul’s last Test appearance for India came in December 2023 against South Africa. Thakur is now hell bent on finding a place in the squad for the gruelling series against Australia, the very tour that he was a part of in 2021 where he excelled with both bat and ball.
