If picked for this week’s game against Australia at The Oval in south London, India’s 31-year-old bowler will be playing in just his ninth Test match. Thakur has made eight Test matches, three of which have been in England when, during India’s most recent series there, he took eight wickets and hit two fifties.
And Thakur really shone at The Oval, which serves as the host venue for this week’s WTC Final. He entered the game with India in danger in the first innings and scored a counterattacking 36 off 36 balls before making an outstanding 60 that helped India’s bottom order contribute to a sizable second-inning total.
Rohit Sharma stated at the media conference on Tuesday that he would wait until the first morning to reveal the precise composition of India’s playing XI. Thakur, though, will be strongly considered to play as the third quick owing to his ability to move the ball and contribute runs down the order.
