It raised quite a few eyebrows when Shardul Thakur went unsold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in Jeddah. Three months later, he finally found a team in the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The Lucknow-based franchise has signed the former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder for Rs 2 crore, his base price at the auction. Fascinatingly, Thakur has replaced Mohsin Khan, who hasn’t got a clearance for the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Shardul Thakur is finally at IPL 2025
Having represented a number of IPL franchises, Thakur was expected to find a place at IPL 2025. However, the auction dynamics led him to get ignored. Interestingly, Thakur has been training with LSG in Lucknow. Alongside Thakur was Shivam Mavi as well. While there hasn’t been any update on Mavi, Thakur has replaced Mohsin, as per Indian Express.
Mohsin has a calf injury and is at just fifty per cent match fitness. He’s likely to get fit in the latter half of the IPL 2025. With the experience of almost 100 IPL games, LSG would bank on Thakur, who will spearhead an injury-stricken LSG bowling unit. Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan and Akash Deep will all miss the initial part of IPL 2025 too.
Quite fascinatingly, LSG’s move for Thakur means he won’t be able to play County Cricket. His aspiration to represent India in the upcoming high-octane Test tour will take an interesting turn. Previously, Thakur joined a County deal with Essex. Now that he has signed a contract with LSG, Thakur is likely to miss County stint.
