Having just scored his maiden first-class century in the Mumbai vs Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy 2024 semi-final, Shardul Thakur made an immediate impact with the ball early on day three, claiming two wickets in Tamil Nadu’s second innings.
In the fourth over, Thakur bowled a delivery that swung late, catching N Jagadeesan plumb in front of the stumps as he attempted a flick shot. The opener, who was yet to score, fell victim to the movement and was dismissed lbw.
Thakur struck again in the fifth over, enticing Sai Sudharsan to drive with a full delivery outside off stump. Sudharsan, deceived by the late inswing, edged the ball to the wicketkeeper, handing Thakur his second wicket and leaving Tamil Nadu reeling at 6-2.

The previous day, Thakur had showcased his batting prowess by reaching his maiden first-class century off just 89 balls. His aggressive innings, which included 13 boundaries and four sixes, propelled Mumbai to a total of 378 runs in their first innings. Additionally, Thakur had also contributed with the ball on day one, picking up two wickets.
Transitioning from his bowling success to his batting heroics, Thakur partnered with Tanush Kotian to guide Mumbai to a strong position, with Kotian also reaching a well-deserved fifty. Thakur’s all-round performance proved pivotal in Mumbai’s dominance during the match.
