Virat Kohli, who hasn’t score an international hundred since November 2019, has dropped to the fourth spot in former leg-spinner’s list of current best Test batsmen in the world.

Steve Smith, who recently contacted Warne for being too harsh on him, is the most “outstanding” batsmen in the longest format. The Australian is followed by Joe Root, who recently missed out on his 7th Test century of 2021 by 11 runs. Notably, Root is the only batsmen to hit over 1000 runs in this calendar year.

The third spot is occupied by New Zealand captain Kane Williamson who averaged a solid 51.41 in the red-ball format. The Kiwi very recently led his team to title triumph in the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC). In the final New Zealand defeated Virat Kohli-led India by 8 wickets. Williamson scored 49 and 52 not out in his two outings in the summit clash.

The fifth spot is occupied by other Australian in Marnus Labuschagne. The 27-year-old is averaging 55.21 in the 19 Test matches he has played so far. The South Africa-born has 5 hundreds and 11 fifties to his name.

“I’ve got Steve Smith. In all conditions and against all bowling attacking across all times, Smith is outstanding,” Warne said on Fox Cricket.

“Joe Root is number two. He has made 6 hundreds in this calendar year. Kane Williamson is always in thereabouts,” added Warne.

“Virat Kohli has just dropped off a little bit, and then Marnus (Labuschagne) rounds up the top-5 for me,” he concluded.

Notably, Joe Root, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson are the NO. 1, 2 and 3 ranked players respectively in the ICC Test rankings as well. Marnus Labushangne occupies the fourth spot, while Kohli has dropped to sixth behind his new deputy Rohit Sharma.
