Shane Warne Passes Away: Shane Warne was a magician with the ball, who mastered the intricate art of leg spin, taking more than 1000 international wickets. Warne will always be remembered as the greatest ever spinner to have played the game. He however always holds a special place in the IPL as after his international retirement, he inspired Rajasthan Royals, which had a team of youngsters to win the inaugural IPL title.

After being part of the World-cup winning Under-19 team under the captaincy of Virat Kohli in 2008, Ravindra Jadeja immediately got the lucrative IPL contract after being picked by the Rajasthan Royals. In his two years with the franchise, Jadeja played 14 games in the first year and mightily impressed Warne. It was him who gave the young lad the moniker ‘Rockstar’. Jadeja then went on to make a name for himself in the domestic and international circuit with his all-round abilities. Today, he is one of the most feared finishers in the T20s. He is also an excellent fielder and a very good bowler, making himself an asset for the Indian team and the Chennai Super Kings in IPL.

Yusuf Pathan
Yusuf Pathan made his international debut in India’s successful T20I World Cup campaign in 2007. However it was the IPL that made everyone take note of this exceptional hitter from Baroda. Yusuf Pathan was part of the Rajasthan Royals franchise for the first three years and he shined showcasing his all-round abilities under the leadership of Warne. He scored 435 runs in the first season and took eight wickets. Most importantly, the runs that he scored came at a very high strike rate of 180. He was also the Manof the match in the IPL final against Chennai Super Kings that year. His exceptional performances in the IPL helped him make a return to the Indian side. Pathan also had a brilliant IPL career even after his days with the Rajasthan Royals side, making himself an IPL legend.

Shane Watson burst into the international scene in 2002, after making his ODI debut for Australia. He however couldn’t cement his spot in the Australian side that boasted of some great players in the playing XI. Warne was picked by him in the Rajasthan Royals that gave him a big breakthrough. Watson emerged as the highest run scorer for the Royals in the inaugural edition with 472 runs in 15 innings. Watson emerged as one of the key players for the franchise and even captained the team in the absence of Warne. He continued his stint with the team until 2015. After that he was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings. He really thrived in CSK and retired after the 2020 season.
