The Bangla Tigers Mississauga, led by skipper Shakib al Hasan, have exited the GT20 Canada tournament despite finishing on the 3rd place in the standings. The team’s bizarre exit from the tournament came after Shakib refused to play a Super Over to determine the winner of the Eliminator. As a result of this, the Toronto Nationals (4th place) will now play the Qualifier 2.
Big twist in GT20 Canada!
The eliminator contest was abandoned with a ball being bowled due to wet outfield. As per reports, the umpires decided to have a one-over match to determine the result of the contest, however, inclement weather conditions did not allow that to take place.
When asked to play a Super Over, Bangla Tigers skipper Shakib refused which led the team to their exit while the Nationals secured their position in the Qualifier 2.
In 7 matches, the Tigers managed to get four wins and finished third on the points table. The Qualifier 1 between Brampton Wolves and Montreal Tigers was also abandoned without a ball being bowled. In the Qualifier 2, the Toronto Nationals beat the Wolves by five wickets to set up a clash with Montreal Tigers in the final.
