Shakib to miss series vs Sri Lanka due to eye issue, after slamming fastest fifty in BPL

In the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto has been named the captain for Sri Lanka series.

Former Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan was left out of the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, due to a persisting eye problem. As per various reports, he has been facing the issue since the World Cup 2023, but hasn’t gotten any relief till now, despite seeing specialists in Singapore.

“Shakib has been our first choice as captain always but his vision problem made him unavailable for Bangladesh at this moment,” BCB president Nazmul Hassan on Monday.

“We had discussion with him but he couldn’t confirm his availability in the upcoming Sri Lanka series. He said his eyesight problem is yet to be solved.”

Shakib’s Solid Show in BPL

Having said that, Shakib has been performing well in the Bangladesh Premier League, and on Tuesday slammed the fastest fifty of the tournament. The all-rounder scored 69 from 31 balls for Rangpur Riders against Khulna Tigers. In fact, in the tournament, he has scored 134 runs in eight matches and has been good with the ball as well. This only brings to the fore, of another player giving preference to T20 leagues over international cricket.
