Shakib al Hasan named in Bangladesh squad for BAN vs SA 1st Test, his last

Veteran all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has been named in the squad for BAN vs SA 1st Test, which means his wish to play his farewell game at home has been granted

Veteran Bangladesh cricket team star Shakib al Hasan has been named in the squad for BAN vs SA 1st Test in Dhaka. This will be the all-rounder final match in the longest format of the game for Tigers. Earlier, there was uncertaininty over Shakib’s participation in the Test series at home in the light of a case against the ex-lawmaker. However, the former captain’s wish has been granted and will now play his final Test at home. The 1st Test will commence from October 21 onwards in Dhaka.

Earlier during the IND vs BAN series, Shakib had announced his plan to retire after the South Africa series, expressing his desire to play his farewell Test at home in front of his home crowd. However, it was’nt clear if the all-rounder would be able to participate in the series as he was named in a case along with ex-PM Sheikh Hasina for an alleged murder. The Sports Adviser to the interim government Ashraf Mahmud and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had maintained that Shakib would get the highest form of security and that he would be backed as a player.

Last week, Shakib al Hasan issued an apology to his fans in Bangladesh over his silence on the recent unrest and political unheveal in the country.

I respect your feelings and sincerely apologise. I want to say goodbye with all of you around. At the moment of farewell, I want to shake hands with those whose applause compelled me to play better,” Shakib al Hasan said.

Bangladesh will be looking to bounce back in the series against South Africa after suffering a 2-0 thrashing at the hands of India. Shanto & co. arrived in India riding high on confidence after handing Pakistan an embarrassing 2-0 defeat at their own backyard, thereby creating history by winning their first series against Shan Masood and co.
