Shakib Al Hasan makes himself ‘available’ for India vs Bangladesh Tests amid early retirement concerns

Shakib has played just four Test matches in the last two years, and instead of practicing for the Pakistan Tests, which start on August 21, he was playing in the Global T20 Canada.

Shakib Al Hasan isn’t bidding Test cricket adieu yet. The former Bangladesh captain had earlier hinted that he wasn’t planning far ahead and had only decided to play Pakistan in a 2-match series. The all-rounder, who’s carried Bangladesh cricket for almost 15 years, has agreed to represent his nation in Test cricket until December this year.

Shakib Al Hasan gives green signal for India Tour

With the India vs Bangladesh Tests starting on September 19, it didn’t look like Shakib would travel to India for the 2-match series. Bangladesh chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain has confirmed that the southpaw will be available not only for the India tour but also against South Africa and the West Indies later in the year.

“Probably at the end of July we talked to Shakib and there were discussions with me regarding his fitness. During the Zimbabwe series, we wanted to understand his short-term plans. We have a busy schedule with eight Test matches by December. He assured us that he would play all the Tests and attend all practice sessions before each series. He is expected to join the team around August 14 or 15,” Ashraf told reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on August 12.
