Shakib Al Hasan injured while playing football
Shakib, who will lead the Bangladesh side in the tournament, picked up an injury on his left ankle while playing football in Bangladesh’s practice session. He will miss Bangladesh’s two warm-up games against Sri Lanka and England. He is also likely to be unavailable for the clash against Afghanistan.
Bangladesh Cricket Board rested Shakib and a few other senior players for the ODI series in New Zealand. He last played an ODI match in July.
Notably, Bangladesh cricket has been plagued by controversy ever since BCB announced their World Cup squad. The omission of batter Tamim Iqbal created a huge uproar, with the southpaw levelling charges at BCB. Now with the injury to their captain Shakib, Bangladesh will feel their World Cup chance slipping away even before the start of the tournament.
