Shakib al Hasan fans “protest” in demand for all-rounder’s participation in Mirpur “farewell” Test

Fans of Bangladesh veteran all-rounder Shakib al Hasan protested, demanding his participation in the BAN vs SA 1st Test in Mirpur

Bangladesh cricket team fans reportedly protested against Shakib al Hasan’s non-participation in the BAN vs SA 1st Test. The match in Mirpur would have been the veteran’s final red-ball format game for the country as he had earlier announced his plan to retire following the game at home. Just a couple of days earlier, Shakib had pulled out of the 1st Test and confirmed that he won’t be traveling to Dhaka.

As per CricTracker, around 20-50 individuals were involved in the protest. The protestors were promptly dispersed by the authorities, as per the report. The BAN vs SA 1st Test is all set to get underway from October 21.

Last week, Shakib al Hasan issued an apology to his fans in Bangladesh over his silence on the recent unrest and political instability in the country.

I respect your feelings and sincerely apologise. I want to say goodbye with all of you around. At the moment of farewell, I want to shake hands with those whose applause compelled me to play better,” Shakib al Hasan said.

Bangladesh will be looking to bounce back in the series against South Africa after suffering a 2-0 thrashing at the hands of India.
