Shai Hope blizzard helps West Indies stay in fray for T20 World Cup semi-final spot

South Africa, England and West Indies are still in contention to make it to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup while USA were eliminated courtesy of the loss to West Indies.

West Indies on Saturday kept up their hopes of reaching the semi-final of T20 World Cup alive when they got the better of United States by 9 wickets at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. It was a must-win match for Rovman Powell’s side to stay in the hunt. They didn’t disappoint either, and in order made Group 2 interesting with final round of matches to go. Shai Hope stood out with his innings of 82 runs off 39 balls that helped Windies chase USA’s target with over 9 overs to spare.

Group 2 race heats up

South Africa, England and West Indies are in fray of making it to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup while USA were eliminated courtesy of the loss to West Indies. Rovman Powell and co play their last match against South Africa while England take on United States.

West Indies achieve NRR-boosting victory

Coming to the match, the West Indies dominated USA throughout the match. After deciding to bowl, Andre Russell and Roston Chase picked up three wickets each while Alzarri Joseph picked up a couple to restrict USA to 128.

West Indies batters appeared to be in a hurry to chase the target down, and rightly so given the net run rate could play a major role for a place in the semi-final. Shai Hope led the charge courtesy of his 39-ball 82 as West Indies chased the target down in just 10.5 overs. Courtesy of the dominating win, West Indies climbed up above England to the 2nd place of the table with the best NRR (+1.814) among the group. They will need a win against South Africa to go through.
