Shaheen Afridi to withdraw from The Hundred to play Global T20 Tournament in Canada: Reports

The left-arm pacer had an impressive outing in the last edition of The Hundred, picking up 6 wickets in 6 games.

Star Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has decided to opt out of The Hundred which is set to commence on July 23, 2024. Afridi is part of the Welsh Fire franchise in this tournament. Last year, he played for this team. Where he picked up 6 wickets in 6 games with an economy of 6.5. And due to this, the Welsh Fire retained him in the £100,000 category.

However, it now looks that he is more inclined towards the Global T20 Canada League. Although nothing is officially confirmed yet, but according to The Telegraph report, he may leave the Hundred tournament to play in the T20 tournament in Canada.

What is the The Hundred tournament?

The Hundred is a 100-ball cricket tournament that involves eight teams named after major cities across England and Wales. Controlled by the England Cricket Board. The tournament has a lot of England international stars, such as Johnny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, and Moeen Ali. Also, each franchise can take up to three overseas players as well.

Expectations are high for Afridi in the T20 World Cup 2024!

Speaking about the Pakistan cricket team, there is no doubt that going into the T20 World Cup, Shaheen Afridi is going to play a major role for Pakistan. Currently, the team is struggling to perform collectively, as they just lost the series against England.

It’s fair to say that his role as a bowler is going to decide the fate of the Pakistan team in this World Cup. Looking at the T20 World Cup stats to date, he has clinched 21 wickets in 14 games with a bowling economy of 6.15.
