Shaheen Afridi opens up about low speeds during Australia series, jokingly blames speed guns

Shaheen Shah Afridi played only one Test during the Australia Test series, and wasn't picked for the other two for various reasons.

There’s never a dull moment with the Pakistani cricket team, be it on the field, or off it. The Asian giants lost the recent Test series against Australia 0-3, and are now in New Zealand for a five-match T20I series starting on Friday. In the series Down Under, one of the key reasons for their failure was lackluster fast bowling, and their spearhead Shaheen Afridi wasn’t at his best.

During the first and second Tests specially, the Pakistani bowlers drew some flak for not being able to generate decent pace, beyond 130-135 kmph, while the Aussies were way ahead in this regard.

Talking at the pre-match conference prior to the first T20I at Auckland, Shaheen joked about the entire issue. He went on to say that they (Pakistani bowlers) couldn’t believe what they saw on the giant screen. “When we were bowling, even we were surprised to look at the speeds on the giant screens. Despite putting so much effort, we just reached 132 kmph.”
