India women’s cricket team absolutely dominated their South Africa counterparts on Day one of the one-off Test in Chennai. Harmanpreet Kaur and co. finished the day on 525/4 at the end of play on Day 1, with Shafali Verma blazing to a double century while Smriti Mandhana continued on her fine form to register yet another century.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India got off to a strong start, courtesy of openers Smriti Mandhana (149) and Shafali Verma (205). The duo put together a record 292-run partnership, the highest so far in women’s Tests, to torment the bowlers, The Proteas eves had zero success in finding a breakthrough as India continued to pile misery on the bowlers.
Mandhana was the first to depart, missing out on a fine 150-run knock by just one run. Meanwhile, Verma departed after a blazing double ton, powering India to a commanding total on Day 1 of the game.
