Setback for Team India, to play only one warm-up match before T20 World Cup: Report

The first batch of players to depart for T20 World Cup would have, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya.

After being busy with the IPL 2024, the Indian team is expected to play only one warm-up match in the lead up the T20 World Cup in the US and the West Indies. As per a report in Cricbuzz, the BCCI has insisted on conducting the practice match in New York, where they are scheduled to take on Pakistan on June 9.

ICC Had Some Other Plans for Team India

The report further states the ICC and the Cricket West Indies had proposed a warm-up game for India in Florida. But Rohit Sharma & Co, who would be coming into the tournament after two months of IPL, wouldn’t want to go to Florida from New York, and then back again.

More News

It is needless to say that India’ practice matches also are of great commercial value. Meanwhile, teams like Pakistan and England, who will play a T20 series shortly, will play two warm-up matches, unlike India. And most likely, these warm-up matches will be played on May 25-26.

Departure Headache

It was first revealed that the Indian team would leave on May 21, but the date was later postponed. Now the team will leave for the venue on May 25-26, in two batches. The first would include players who won’t be part of the IPL playoffs, while the others will leave after the IPL final.

India will play four league matches — June 5 vs Ireland, June 9 vs Pakistan, and June 12 vs USA — all in New York. India’s last match would be against Canada in Florida on June 15.
