Due to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is likely to be not part of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) backroom staff in the upcoming IPL 2024.
According to information obtained by News18, Gautam Gambhir is not switching teams, but rather taking a break to concentrate on his political obligations during a crucial election year.
“Yes, Gautam Gambhir is likely to just take a break for the next IPL to political commitments. He is not moving to a different team or leaving franchises. There will be a lot of political work involved in the build-up to the Lok Sabha elections, so he wants to focus all his energies towards that,” a source told News18.
Gautam Gambhir: Cricketer and a Politician
The East Delhi BJP MP is a prominent figure in Delhi politics, and the party has benefited greatly from his district. The BJP won 21 out of the 36 wards in Gautam Gambhir East Delhi parliamentary district in the MCD elections, which the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won.
In the polls, it had the best performance for the party. Gautam Gambhir is likely to be a significant campaigning figure for the general elections that will take place between the months of April and May of next year, given his popularity and performance.
“Gautam is a big face for BJP in Delhi and elsewhere also his popularity is right up there. So he will be actively involved in election work next year and will not have enough time for the IPL 2024,” adds the source.
Gautam Gambhir has kept cards close to his chest regarding this matter until now.
The most recent addition to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) backroom personnel is former BCCI Chief Selector MSK Prasad, who serves as a strategic consultant. A larger revamp that also saw Justin Langer succeed Andy Flower as head coach included the hiring of Prasad as well.
Gautam Gambhir is currently playing in the US Masters T10 League, the smallest format of cricket. He is playing for the New Jersey Tritons alongside Yusuf Pathan, another member of India’s 2011 World Cup winning team.
They also have Monty Panesar, RP Singh, Albie Morkel, Liam Plunkett, Jesse Ryder, Craig McMillan, and Liam Plunkett in addition to these players.
