‘Selfless’ Sanju Samson hails ‘rival’ Surya-Hardik show, ‘Was not easy to score’

Samson scored a 39-ball half century and made a strong statement to selectors ahead of Asia Cup squad selection.

India cricketer Sanju Samson on Tuesday scored a brisk half-century IND vs WI 3rd ODI to silence his critics. Despite a brilliant knock, Samson hailed his teammated Suryakumar Yadav and skipper Hardik Pandya for a brilliant partnership in the death overs to push India to over 351/5.

“With the new ball it was coming on nicely, but as the ball got old it was holding up and became slightly tough against the spinners. It was not easy to get that score, credit goes to the middle order batters for hanging in and getting that score”, Samson said during the innings break.

Notably, with Ishan Kishan already cementing his spot for the upcoming World Cup, Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav are fighting for a place in the World Cup squad.

‘Being an Indian cricketer is challenging’

Samson, who batted at number 3 in the last ODI, came to bat at number 4 this time after dismisal of Ruturaj Gaikwad and scored a brilliant 39-ball fifty.

After India’s innings, Samson opened up about batting in different positions and called it ‘challenging’.

“Being an Indian cricketer is a challenging thing (speaking about adjusting to playing in different batting positions), I have played domestic cricket for the last 8-9 years and for India here and there, so it gives you a bit of understanding of playing in different positions. It is the number of overs you get and it is not about batting position so you gotta prepare accordingly”, Samson said

The 28-year-old came with an attacking mindset as he smashed a six on the second ball he faced.

Samson scored a 39-ball half century and made a strong statement to selectors ahead of Asia Cup squad selection.
