Australia pacer Scott Boland has rejected County offer in England in order to fit and recharged for the World Test Championship Final 2023 (WTC Final 2023) against India and Ashes 2023. Boland had a breakthrough Ashes series Down Under 2021-22 series picking up 18 wickets in just three Test matches. The 34-year-old pacer wants to prioritize playing Test cricket for Australia so that he remains in top form during six Test matches starting with WTC Final in June.
“I did have the opportunity to play county cricket this year, but I prioritized being a bit fresher going into six tests in two months,” Boland told cricket.com.au.
“I know my body, that if I’m at a stage where I’m getting tired, I want to keep my career going for as long as I can. I don’t want to burn out.”
WTC Final: WTC and Ashes on the mind of Boland, pacer keen on giving his best for Australia
One of the key reasons for Australia winning the Ashes in 2021 was their rotation of pacers. Boland formed a formidable combination with Pat Cummins, Starc, & Hazlewood. Boland stated Australia will likely deploy the same policy against England during Ashes 2023.
The 34-year is ready to play in whatever Test Cummins names in the playing XI, and for that, Boland says he is ready to be fit and fresh.
“It will be tough for fast bowlers to play all six games,” Boland said.
“I’m definitely preparing to play. It could be at the start, it could be halfway through, I’m not sure. But I’m planning to play and excited to play whenever they choose me.”
Boland has been selected in both WTC and Ashes squads for Australia. While Australia are expected to play Starc, Cummins, and Hazlewood as their three pacers, Boland is likely to back up seamer.
But with Hazlewood a doubtful starter for WTC Final due to Achilleas’ injury, Boland could play the summit clash against India. In the seven Tests that the fast bowler has played for Australia, he has picked up 28 wickets.
