Saurashtra Cricket Association to carry investigation after U23 players carry alcohol from Chandigarh

A disciplinary enquiry has been launched by the Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA). The probe was undertaken after liquor bottlers were found from U23 players. The Saurashtra players thumped Chandigarh in the Col. CK Nayudu Trophy and was pegged down.

A considerable amount of liquor bottles were seized at the Chandigarh Airport authorities. The incident apparently took place on 25th January after the clash between Saurashtra and Chandigarh

“There has been an alleged incident at Chandigarh that was brought to notice of Saurashtra Cricket Association,” said the SCA in a statement.

“The alleged incident is unfortunate and intolerable. Ethics/Disciplinary Committee & Apex Council of Saurashtra Cricket Association to make in-depth examine of the incident and shall take proper disciplinary action,” SCA statement continued.

5 members of the Saurashtra team were charged for transporting alcohol into a state were alcohol is banned. Gujarat though has provision of allowing alcohol in certain areas. Prasham Rajdev, Samarth Gajjar, Rakshit Mehta, Parshwaraj Rana, and Smitraj Jhalani are the 5 players who have been charged. The 5 players apparently hid 27 bottles of alcohol in their kit bags.

“This alleged incident is unfortunate and intolerable. Ethics and disciplinary committee and the apex council will examine the incident in depth and necessary disciplinary action will be taken,” Secretary of Saurashtra Cricket Association Himanshu Shah said.
