Sarfaraz Khan to join squad for IND vs BAN 1st Test tonight after extra Duleep Trophy game

Sarfaraz Khan has played 3 Tests so far for India, all three of which came in the series against England earlier this year.

Sarfaraz Khan forced his selection into the Indian team earlier this year. He scored a plethora of runs in order to get selected in the national setup and even had a great maiden Test series against England. As a result, the Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI) kept his place in the team for the ensuing two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

At the same time, Sarfaraz was even allowed to play in the second round of the Duleep Trophy fixture for India C. The domestic match, started on September 12 culminated today (September 15), with the clash against India B ending in a stalemate. However, it is being reported that the star Mumbai-born batter will join Team India today itself.

Sarfaraz to join India camp in Chennai

The Indian national team is currently undergoing a training camp at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The camp which started on September 13, saw the participation of all the 15 selected players. However, Rohit Sharma will now have his final 16th member with him as Sarfaraz Khan is expected to land in Chennai tonight. According to journalist Rohit Juglan, Sarfaraz will join the team, coming straight from Anantapur, where the Duleep Trophy match was played.

Sarfaraz or KL Rahul, who should play in IND vs BAN 1st Test?

Sarfaraz Khan instantly became a fan-favorite after his superb showing in the Test series against England. He played quite positively and racked up 200 runs at an average of 50.00, a period that included 3 fifties. However, his selection came when India missed the likes of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant in the middle-order.

But now, both KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant warrant their place in the side. With the top four fixed (Rohit, Jaiswal, Gill & Kohli), the only place of contention is the number five slot. However, Rahul is likely to be favored for the role. It is simply because he has molded his game from an opener to a middle-order asset with aplomb. His exploits in the ODI format, great Test record overseas, and seniority might pip him ahead of Sarfaraz.
