Sarfaraz Khan knocks on selectors’ doors with quick fifty in IND-A vs SA-A

Sarfaraz Khan scored a half-century in the first unofficial IND-A vs SA-A Test at the Senwes Park, Potchefstroom on Wednesday.

Continuing his impressive consistency, Sarfaraz Khan once again knocked on selectors’ doors after an impactful half-century in the first unofficial IND-A vs SA-A Test at the Senwes Park, Potchefstroom on Wednesday.

Coming at number 4, Sarafarz stitched a 130-run partnership with Pradosh Ranjan Paul to keep India cruising in the second innings. The 24-year-old scored an 85-ball 68 before he was dismissed by Odirile Modimokoane.

The knock has allowed the youngster to put his name back in contention for a call-up for the red-ball format. Long overlooked for his fitness, Sarfaraz has had stellar domestic seasons in the last two seasons, amassing nearly 2600 runs at a stellar average.

Sarfaraz Khan’s stellar domestic run

The Mumbai batter has had stellar domestic run in last three seasons, the 24-year-old scored 928 runs in the 2019/20 season, 982 in the 2022-23 and 656 in the 2022-23 season but failed to caught the selectors’ attention eyes due to off-field issues.

Earlier in June, a senior BCCI official revealed that Sarfaraz’s off-field conduct is the key reason behind the youngster’s snub from Test squad.

“His conduct on and off the field hasn’t exactly been top notch. Certain things said, certain gestures made and some incidents have been taken note of. A bit more disciplined approach would only do him a world of good. Hopefully, Sarfaraz along with his father and coach Naushad Khan will work on those aspects,” the senior BCCI official told PTI.

Talking about the game, earlier, pacer Prasidh Krishna recorded a hat-trick and picked a five-fer to bundle out the home side to 319.

Resuming day three’s play at 298 for five, South Africa A witnessed a stunning collapse, courtsey of Prasidh who snapped up five wickets in the space of four overs to put India back in the game.
