Mumbai scored 537 in the first; out of these, 222 belong to Sarfaraz Khan. The domestic run machine did his best in the Irani Cup 2024 and made sure Mumbai didn’t feel the absence of Musheer Khan. His younger brother was enjoying the form of his life. This year, he averaged 108 in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season, with a double hundred in the quarterfinal, fifty in the semifinal, and a hundred in the final.
Hundred for me & hundred for my brother: Sarfaraz Khan
In the Duleep Trophy, he scored an incredible match-saving 181 against a strong India A team. The 19-year-old was all set to dominate in the Irani Cup, but fate had other things in mind. On his way to Lucknow for the match against the Rest of India, Musheer was unfortunately involved in a car accident.
As he recovers, his older brother, Sarfaraz, dedicates one-half of a double century to his brother. “It has been an emotional week for me. I had promised my family and teammates that ‘if I am set if I cross the fifty, I will score a double hundred—a hundred for me and a hundred for my brother (Musheer),” he said after day three of the Irani Cup 2024.
“If he (Musheer) would have played, Abbu (father Naushad) would have been prouder. Unfortunately, he met with an accident. So, I thought I have to somehow score a double ton in this match,” he added.
In the car with his father Naushad, he suffered an injury on his neck that can ruled him for the first leg of Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, which ends on November 16. Luckily, his father escaped unscathed.
