Sanju Samson returns to familiar territory as Rishabh Pant gets keeper spot in XI for IND vs IRE

India have decided to go with Rishabh Pant as their keeper-batter instead of Sanju Samson for IND vs IRE T20 World Cup clash

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was picked in India’s XI over Sanju Samson for the side’s T20 World Cup opener against Ireland. Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to field first in the Nassau County International Cricket stadium. Pant will make his comeback to international cricket for the first time since the horrific car crash in December 2022.

Rishabh Pant smashed a blistering half-century in the warm-up game against England. The southpaw turned back the clock to showcase his prowess with the bat with some incredible shots. Sanju Samson on the other hand had a poor outing. Opening the batting with skipper Rohit Sharma, Samson was the first to depart as he barely managed to get going against the Bangladesh bowlers.

Sanju Samson had his best IPL season ever so far, finishing with 531 runs to his name that puts him on the 5th spot in the list of highest run-scorers. The Kerala batter proved why he was the right pick for India in the T20 WC squad with commendable and consistent performances that helped RR dominate majority of IPL 2024.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant had a great outing as well in IPL 2024, surprising many with his technique and big hitting ability despite making a comeback after a nightmare accident. He amassed 446 runs in 13 innings for DC, turning back the clock to showcase his ability with both bat and the gloves.
