Sanju Samson likely to miss Asia Cup 2023 camp at NCA from Aug 24

Sanju Samson highly unlikely to miss the Asia Cup 2023 camp at NCA after extended traveling, Jasprit Bumrah to get 2 day rest after IND vs IRE

Sanju Samson is likely to miss the Asia Cup 2023 camp set to be hosted at the National Cricket Academy from 24th August. The camp serves as a preparation for the Indian players who will be a part of the Asia Cup squad and will travel to Sri Lanka for the tournament. If and only if Sanju Samson gets picked for the Asia Cup, he will join the camp on the last 2 days.

After the conclusion of the India Tour of West Indies, the main team of players will return to India as the Men in Blue begin their preparation for the Asia Cup. On the other hand, a second-string team will travel to Ireland to take part in a 3-match T20I series. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the side and Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper Sanju Samson is also a part of the squad.

“The camp will be for Asia Cup squad. If he is picked for Asia Cup, he will only report to the camp on the last two days. Sanju will need a break after the Ireland series. There will be a lot of matches and travelling in a short span of time. Bumrah will be in the camp after a two-day break,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

The dynamics for Sanju are very simple. If he gets selected he will join the the National Cricket Academy for the Asia Cup camp on the last two days. Sanju is playing in the West Indies series and will travel to Ireland for the T20 series and it is only natural that he needs rest.

On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah who is returning from a long-term injury and will get his first taste of International cricket against Ireland, will get a 2-day break before he joins the NCA Camp for the Asia Cup.

There still remains a shroud of mystery over Sanju Samson’s inclusion in the Asia Cup squad. In ODIs, KL Rahul is the designated keeper for India, while the RR skipper is yet to consolidate his spot as the dependable middle-order batter for India in 50-over cricket. But with Shreyas Iyer still doubtful for Asia Cup, Sanju is still in the mix.

In the Ireland series, Sanju will get the nod ahead of Jitesh Sharma.
