After being released from the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 squad, Sanju Samson has decided to vent by golfing on his trip to Dubai. The batter posted a story on his Instagram account on September 9, indicating that he had been let go from the Indian squad after KL Rahul’s return to the line-up for the IND vs PAK encounter on September 10. However, Samson can find himself in the reckoning once again after Shreyas Iyer suffered a back spasm ahead of the India vs Pakistan Super 4 clash.
Why did Sanju Samson travel to Dubai?
Sanju was initially announced as a travelling reserve for the Asia Cup 2023 but was unexpectedly released from the squad after KL Rahul regained full fitness.
Samson then decided to travel and let off some steam in light of his not being included in the Asia Cup squad, as Tilkar Varma and Suryakumar Yadav were selected ahead of him for the event. Then on September 5, Samson was not selected for the ODI World Cup 2023 squad, and once again, Surya was given a nod ahead of him despite a poor show with the bat in the 50-over format.
Will Sanju Samson return to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup 2023?
With concerns over Shreyas Iyer’s fitness, the wicketkeeper batter may find himself in the reckoning once again. Just moments before the match, Iyer had suffered a back spasm during the pre-match warmup, and therefore KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan were both slotted in the playing XI for the IND vs PAK Super Fours clash.
Now that Iyer’s fitness is circumspect, Samson may find himself in the squad for the Asia Cup once again, with two matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka still left to be played.
