“Sanju Samson is mentally sound, love him”: Pietersen unbothered about opener’s consecutive flops

Sanju Samson hasn't managed to slam a fifty in the ongoing IND vs ENG T20I series

Ace India Cricket Team batter Sanju Samson hasn’t been up to the mark in the IND vs ENG T20I series. However, Kevin Pietersen is not at all worried about Sanju’s lack of runs. Over the past 2 games, Sanju has registered single-digit scores. The former England captain claims that he loves Samson for the batter he is.

Sanju Samson was on song at Eden Gardens where he scored 26 runs. This was followed by 5 and 3 respectively. At Rajkot, he tried hitting a six but eventually gifted his wicket to Jofra Archer.

These things happen – Pietersen

“I think mentally he’s sound. I really like Sanju Samson as a batter. I actually love him. I was pretty surprised that he hasn’t had more of a consistent role over the last few years. Yes, he’s got a game here at the top of the order, but listen, these things happen. Things happen so quickly in the shortest form of the game,” Pietersen told the broadcasters after the match.

Kevin Pietersen further added that he is a fabulous player. He added that he wants Samson to have a more consistent role at the top of the order. But now he is surprised that it hasn’t taken place over the years.

“If he keeps doing it over the next six weeks or he does it over the next couple of months, then I’d probably have a look at it and start to question his technique. But I think that he’s a fabulous player. I think he plays the short ball extremely well, and I just think he’s a rock solid player. So from that standpoint, there’s no way that I’m going to stand here and critique his play of the short ball,” Pietersen concluded.
