Sanjay Manjrekar points out at Rohit Sharma’s favoritism in choosing Ashwin over Jadeja

IND vs BAN 2nd Test: Sanjay Manjrekar calls out Rohit Sharma's favoritism in choosing Ravi Ashwin over Ravindra Jadeja in Kanpur Test

While just 35 overs were bowled on Day 1 of the IND vs BAN 2nd Test in Kanpur. Interestingly, the only bowler to not roll his arms on the opening day was Ravindra Jadeja. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that Rohit Sharma plays favoritism by picking Ravichandran Ashwin over Ravindra Jadeja.

The India Cricket Team opted to bowl first after Rohit Sharma won the toss. He kept an unchanged Playing XI from the Chennai Test, playing 3 pacers and 2 spinners.

Akash Deep landed two early blows dispatching Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj remained wicketless. As for the spin department, post lunch Ravi Ashwin scalped Bangladeshi skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma didn’t give an opportunity for Ravindra Jadeja to bowl a single over. While it was expected that Jadeja would get his chance but then the rain gods opened up. With bad light stopping play coupled with rain, Day 1 ended prematurely with just 35 overs being bowled.

Sanjay Manjrekar was however not pleased with Rohit’s stunt. He took to social media to post “Rohit needs to be shown this stat- JADEJA vs COOK, 2016 series : In 8 inngs, got him out 6 times, conceded just 75 runs. Rohit tends to not bowl Jadeja early when there are left landers out there.

Expressing how Jadeja has been terrific against left handed batters, Manjrekar pointed out that against Alastair Cook, Jadeja has 6 dismissals in 8 innings and have conceded just 75 runs. He was thus extremely upset on seeing Rohit Sharma play favoritism by choosing Ashwin over Jadeja.
