Sanjay Manjrekar makes obnoxious claim, says “Virat and Rohit not in their prime”

Ever since 2020, since Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy, he has scored 2038 runs, while Virat Kohli has scored 1745 runs.

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar is known to get into trouble for some of the obnoxious statements he makes. This time he has gone ahead and spoken on most loved Indian cricketers — Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Speaking on SportifyWithPRG, Sanjay said that the duo are out of their prime.

He also went to say that it might not be possible for the duo to record their third successive series win Down Under, as India begins their Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign in November.

“It might be a tough one. Virat and Rohit, both are not in their prime, they are not at the peak of their powers to be fair and others like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubhman Gill have to rise to the occasion. Rishabh Pant is the only one that I feel is in his prime and a very important player,” Manjrekar said.

Speaking on the Australian attack, he said, “India is sorted … As for the Australians, the aura and ability they had in the past, where every game they played, they were like champions, is not there anymore.”

Meanwhile, with the first Test of the IND vs AUS series slated to start on November 22 in Perth, it needs to be seen if Mohammed Shami will recover in time or not. The speedster had undergone an ankle surgery in February and hasn’t recovered fully till now. For the same reason he was not included in the IND vs NZ series, and perhaps might miss out on AUS series too.

India’s squad for the three Tests against New Zealand: Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (wk), Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep
