Fittingly, the first of Sania Mirza’s six grand slam titles came alongside an Indian partner way back in 2009 in the Australian Open. The mixed doubles pair of Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi defeated France’s Nathalie Dechy and Israel’s Andy Ram 6-3, 6-1 in the final.

Grand Slam Number 2: French Open 2012 – Mixed Doubles

Her third grand slam title came at the U.S. Open in 2014. The only difference was that her partner was Bruno Soares, a Brazilian. The Indo-Brazilian pair overcame the challenge of the USA’s Abigail Spears and Mexico’s Santiano Gonzalez 6-2, 2-6, 11-9 in a hard-fought final.

Grand Slam Number 4: Wimbledon 2015 – Women’s Doubles
2015 has to be the best year Sania Mirza has had as a professional tennis player. She decided to give up on mixed doubles and try her hand at women’s doubles. She partnered former world number one Martina Hingis, and from there on, a series of monumental victories for the Indo-Swiss pair ensued.
Wimbledon was their first grand slam victory. In the final, Hingis-Mirza defeated the Russian pair of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina under the floodlights. The final score read: 5-7, 7-6, 7-5.

Grand Slam Number 5: U.S Open 2015 – Women’s Doubles
