Shortly after former Pakistan cricket team captain Shoaib Malik announced his marriage to actress Sana Javed, a family member of Sania Mirza, former India tennis player and Shoaib’s first wife, revealed that the tennis star had been unilaterally divorced by her husband.
Shoaib Malik took to social media on Saturday, sharing a photo with Sana Javed, captioning it: “And We created you in pairs.” The two, who have collaborated in various shows and TV commercials in Pakistan, have a close association.
Mirza’s family wrote in a statement that the star has been divorced for quite some months now and would prefer privacy surrounding the intricacies of it.
Speculation about differences between Shoaib and Sania had been circulating, with reports suggesting a split, though there was no official confirmation. Malik had evaded Sania-related questions on Pakistani TV shows last year and recently unfollowed her on Instagram.
Shoaib and Sania tied the knot in Hyderabad in April 2010, residing in Dubai. The couple had a son, Ihzaan Mirza Malik, in October 2018, who stays with Sania.
This development follows Sania Mirza’s retirement last year after a 20-year career with 43 WTA doubles titles and one singles trophy. Sania is also a mentor to the RCB team in the upcoming WPL.
