Sam Konstas probably gave Jasprit Bumrah a bout of existential crisis in IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test with his fiery onslaught. Diving into the details of how he plotted his attack against the premium pacer, the 19-year-old revealed that he was indeed put under a bit of pressure to be up against Bumrah but managed to reap the rewards by sticking to his game plan. With some ridiculous shots, Konstas made his way to 60 runs off just 65 deliveries in his very first Test match.

Speaking at a press conference after stumps on Day 1, Konstas revealed that his reverse scoop against Bumrah was premeditated. He admitted that the first over was all about getting used to the pacer’s unique action and reading the pitch. Further, the Australian opener said that he was given the freedom to express himself, adding that all the pressure around how to face vanished with his fiery knock against Bumrah.
“The first over was getting used to his (Jasprit Bumrah) actions and the shot was a bit premeditated. That’s just Cricket. It’s the tension. The freedom to express myself. Bumrah is a legend put a bit of pressure and it came off today,” Sam Konstas said.

Sam Konstas’ dream Test debut
En route to his half-century, Konstas enjoyed enormous success against Bumrah. He started off with a ramp battle, going on to miss on the first two occasions. He then hit three boundaries to the modern great who was thrown off by the youngster. In the last over of his spell (11th), Konstas hit Bumrah for 18 runs.
