IPL 2024 and the new norm of the captains getting fined! The latest addition to the list, Punjab Kings stand in skipper Sam Curran. The English all-rounder was fined 50% of his match fees for Level 1 offence in breaching IPL’s Code of Conduct. In yesterday’s earlier game, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis was also fined Rs. 12 lakh.
Sam Curran fined 50% of Match fees
Stand in skipper for Punjab Kings Sam Curran has been hit with a huge penalty. The English all-rounder has been charged 50% of his match fees in the PBKS vs GT clash. The 50% fine means that the player has been charged for showing dissent towards an umpiring decision as per Article 2.8.
Article 2.8 includes “(a) excessive, obvious disappointment with an Umpire’s decision; (b) an obvious delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket; (c) shaking the head; (d) pointing or looking at the inside edge when given out LBW; (e) pointing to the pad or rubbing the shoulder when caught behind; (f) snatching the cap from the Umpire; (g) requesting a referral to the TV Umpire (other than in the context of a legitimate request for a referral as may be permitted in such Match); and (h) arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion with the Umpire about his/her decision.”
Not just Sam Curran, another foreign skipper too had to pay the price in yesterday’s game. In the Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru clash, Faf du Plessis was also fined 12 lakh. This was mainly owing to slow over rate.
