India on Thursday lost the IND vs SA 1st Test by an innings and 32 runs. The Proteas dominated the game with both bat and ball as the Indian contingent appeared lacklustre. India’s bowling unit failed to stem the Proteas as Dean Elgar went on to score 185 runs in the first innings. Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has now questioned the squad selection of the Indian team, saying left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh would have been a better choice for the IND vs SA Test series than Prasidh Krishna or Shardul Thakur.
In an interview on his YouTube channel, Butt said that India could have Arshdeep into the team instead of Shardul and Prasidh. Butt also claimed that Arshdeep could have been a useful player at Centurion. Both Shardul and Prasidh went for runs in the IND vs SA 1st Test, with the former conceding 101 runs in 19 overs while the latter gave away 93 runs in 20 overs.
“Instead of playing Prasidh Krishna or Shardul Thakur, it would have been better if India they picked Arshdeep Singh in the squad. He bowls over 135 kph and also swings the ball both ways. He might have been effective in the Test. Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur gave a lot of easy boundary balls,” Butt said.
Butt also shared his views on Indian captain Rohit Sharma, saying the seasoned player is over ODI World Cup final loss.
“Rohit is a seasoned player who is nearing the end of his career and has a lot of achievements. It was a final, and India could not win; that’s it. I am sure he is over the World Cup final loss,” Butt added.
