Salary hai performance nhi: Ex-India player hammers Glenn Maxwell after another RCB loss

Glenn Maxwell has scored just 31 runs at an horror batting average of 7.75 so far this season for RCB. His poor show has drawn heavy criticism from all corners, including Manoj Tiwary who questioned his return on investment.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) struggles in IPL 2024 continued on Tuesday as they slumped to another defeat, this time against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Adding to their woes was a familiar sight – a disappointing batting performance from Glenn Maxwell. The Australian all-rounder, known for his explosive batting, managed a mere duck, further extending his dismal run in the tournament.

Following the match, Tiwary, speaking on Cricbuzz, expressed his disappointment with Maxwell’s performances. He pointed out the faith RCB has shown in Maxwell by retaining him but questioned his return on investment. “He is receiving his salary on time,” said Tiwary, “but not giving a match-winning performance for the team.” This statement suggests that Tiwary believes Maxwell is not justifying his hefty price tag of INR 11 crore with his poor current form.

Tiwary even criticized how badly things have been going for RCB and uttered, “RCB have always been considered a batting-heavy team but their line-up has failed to deliver. Neither their batters are getting runs nor their bowlers are performing good.”

A horror start to IPL 2024 for Maxwell

Maxwell’s dismal performance against LSG wasn’t his first in this season. He started with a golden duck in the tournament opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and could only manage three runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the following match. While he showed some promise with a 28-run knock against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), his overall performance remains concerning, with just 31 runs from four outings at a poor average of 7.75.

Having said that, Maxwell produced a phenomenal IPL 2023 season, where he mustered 400 runs at an outstanding strike rate of 183.49 in 14 matches. RCB would hope that their Australian star turns his IPL 2024 campaign around and plays according to his high potential.
