“We are shocked & surprised seeing the LOGOS. We will take up the matter both with Cricket South Africa and these IPL teams. This is completely against the spirit of our understanding with the team owners”, a very irritated BCCI official had told InsideSport regarding logos. And it’s no rocket science to assume that the top brass won’t be happy about the copying of jerseys too.
SA20 vs. IPL: A quick glance at the jersey explains why most netizens are confused about whether it’s SA20 or IPL starting. Teams after adopting the same logos and have gone with similar shades of threads as the IPL teams. The BCCI cannot really object to the IPL franchises’ participation in overseas leagues, per the contracts with the IPL Franchises.
Earlier, with the exception of the name change, the LOGOS were exactly the same.
The BCCI official had responded earlier in the affirmative when asked if any action would be taken against the franchises, saying, “We will 100% have call with these teams”.
SA20 LEAGUE
The franchise T20 league in South Africa is about to start its first season. SA20 2023 is scheduled to begin on January 10. In the first game, MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals will face off. The SA20 2023 championship will occur on February 11.
The SA20 2023 competition will pit six teams against one another. They are the Joburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals, MI Cape Town, Durban Super Giants, and Pretoria Capitals.
At this point, three IPL teams – Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals – are part of the UAE league (ILT20). Six teams – Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, SunRisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals – are part of the league in South Africa (SA20).
In fact, all six teams in SA20 are IPL subsidiaries and it is being seen as a mini-IPL. Besides, in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), two IPL franchises – Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings – are participating.
