Ahead of the SA20 2023 auctions, MI Cape Town has announced former South African spinner Robin Peterson as their head coach and former Mumbai Indians players and current MI New York coach Lasith Malinga as their bowling coach.
Robin Peterson, who was MI Cape Town’s General Manager in 2022, will take over Simon Katich’s job as the new coach. After leading MI New York to the inaugural Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 title as their head coach, Malinga replaces Jacob Oram as their new bowling coach. Meanwhile, MI Capetown’s batting coach, Hashim Amla, will continue his role.
MI Cape Town also thanked Katich and Oram for their efforts and wished them well in their future endeavours.
The reason behind the replacement of Oram and Katich is the team’s poor performance in the inaugural edition of the SA20 last year.
MI Cape Town ended the 2022 season at the bottom of the table with just three wins in their 10 matches.
Their failure to make the playoffs led the MI franchise to look past their head coach and bowling coach.
Moreover, Malinga’s success as the head and bowling coach of MI New York in MLC 2023 made them pick him ahead of Oram.
SA20 2023 Auction: Live Streaming Details
SuperSport will be broadcasting live to the Sub-Saharan audience, with Viacom18 broadcasting live in India on JioCinema, Etisalat in the MENA region, and Fox Sports in Australia. The broadcast will start at 19:30 (IST) in India. The show will also be live-streamed on the Betway SA20 YouTube channel.
