SA vs SL LIVE: Wanindu Hasaranga breaks South Africa’s back with sensational hat-trick, becomes first spinner to do so
Wanindu Hasaranga has enjoyed a stellar T20 World Cup campaign, and his powers were again on show on Saturday against South Africa. The RCB spinner was at his unplayable best as he ran through the Proteas batting order to give Sri Lanka a sniff in the game. Hasaranga dismissed Aiden Markram with the final ball of the 15th over, before scalping for the likes of Temba Bavuma and Dwaine Pretorius in the first two deliveries of the 18th over to turn the game on its head.
Wanindu Hasaranga become the third bowler and the first spinner to take a hat-trick in T20 World Cup matches as he picked up three in consecutive deliveries in the game against South Africa. Curtis Campher and former Australia pacer Brett Lee are the other two bowlers to take a T20 World Cup hat-trick.
Interestingly, Campher took the hat trick in earlier this month. The pacer had dismissed Colin Ackermann (11), Ryan ten Doeschate (0), Scott Edwards (0) and Pieter Seelaar (0) in the match against the Netherlands. The leg-spinner is the fourth Sri Lankan to take a hat-trick in T20 internationals after Thisara Perera, Lasith Malinga (twice) and Akila Dananjaya. He is also the fourth to take a hat-trick in both T20Is and ODIs, after Brett Lee, Thisara Perera and Lasith Malinga.
