SA beat IND: 5 big reasons behind Team India’s brutal clean sweep by South Africa in ODIs- check out
Middle-order
The middle-order failed to pay dividends. While Shreyas Iyer threw away all 3 chances, Venkatesh Iyer failed to put a show in multiple outings. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli failed to convert his fifties into a big score.
Shreyas Iyer vs SA: 26, 11 & 17 runs
Venkatesh Iyer vs SA: 2 & 22
Bowlers
The bowling department looked off-course. Bhuvneshwar Kumar & Shardul Thakur failed to leave a mark while spinners were completely dismal. Yuzvendra Chahal wasted all three chances with just a couple of wickets, R Ashwin too managed a single wicket in three matches.
On-Field Attitude
Besides batting & bowling downfall, India’s overall on-field body language looked dismal. While KL Rahul has failed to take key decisions, Virat Kohli’s new role as a senior pro has reined himself in. The players looked uninterested and unprepared for challenges.
While the Bavuma-Dussen partnership hurt India in the opener, Quinton De Kock & Janneman Malan partnership added fuel to the fire. De Kock’s other innings in the final contest hurt big time. India looked as if they are yet to recover from the T20 World Cup onslaught & Test series loss after-effects.
KL Rahul’s captaincy
KL Rahul looked under pressure. Besides failing to take key decisions on the field, he failed big time with the bat. He managed 12 & 9 besides only positive innings of 55 which he failed to convert into a big score.
Virat Kohli vs BCCI saga
The timeliness of Virat Kohli’s sacking failed for India. While India lost the Test series, the absence of Kohli as the captain didn’t help India. Rohit Sharma’s injury led to an unwanted situation. As a result, he failed to play big scores even after an end to his white-ball captaincy.
