Ruturaj Gaikwad has been appointed Maharashtra’s captain for the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. Last year, Kedhar Jadhav was the skipper, but following his retirement from the sport in June, Ruturaj has been rightly named the leader. The 27-year-old has been a part of India’s Test squad on the tour of the West Indies and South Africa in the last 12 months.

After being injured during the last Ranji Trophy season and playing just a couple of matches, this time around, he’s expected to play all the games and once again throw his hand in the ring for the national Test team. Although he’s already captained Maharashtra in List A cricket, having recently been excluded from India’s squad for Sri Lanka white-ball, Gaikwad would take some solace from being named his state’s skipper.
Last Ranji season, Gaikwad was injured during the group stage and managed to play just one match. Because of his absence, Maharashtra struggled and failed to reach the group stage. This time around, with the experienced batter on the side, they’ll hope to contend for their first title in 83 years.
