Newly appointed CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was subjected to heavy online abuse after he took over Royal Challengers Bengaluru ace Virat Kohli in the race for the Orange Cup in IPL 2024. Gaikwad’s impressive knock of 98 runs,followed by 62 against PBKS catapulted him to the top of the batting charts with a total of 509 runs, edging out Kohli.

However, Virat Kohli‘s ardent fans didn’t take kindly to this. They flooded Ruturaj Gaikwad’s social media posts with abusive comments, expressing their anger at his ascent over their favourite player. The harassment got intense as these radical supporters vented their frustration over the feat.

Ruturaj Gaikwad surpasses 500 runs in IPL 2024
Ruturaj Gaikwad is now only the second player to surpass 500 runs this season after Kohli achieved the feat against Gujarat Titans. Despite his stellar form, Gaikwad wasn’t included in India’s T20 World Cup squad, a decision that surprised many fans and cricket experts alike.
Meanwhile, another player rejoining the top five run-scorers in IPL 2024 is KL Rahul. Following his 28-run knock, Rahul reclaimed his place among the top performers, nudging Rishabh Pant to sixth position. With 406 runs from 10 innings, Rahul’s form has been a bright spot for his team.
