While the T20 cricket has become increasingly batter-centric, the Indian Premier League (IPL) have taken an initiative to provide an even contest between bat and ball.
The IPL 2024 will allow bowlers to deliver two bouncers per over. According to ESPNcricinfo, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have decide to bring the new rule in action after a successful trial in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Meanwhile, despite demands to take away the ‘Impact Player’ rule, BCCI have decided to continue with it for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league.
Notably, former cricketers including Wasim Jaffer and Aakash Chopra have opined that the rule needs to be taken away as it is hindering the development of Indian all-rounders.
According to Impact player rule, a team can bring a substitute player at any point in an inning to replace a player from the playing 11 during the match. This has limited the opportunities for all-rounders who are no longer required to bowl more frequently in the matches.
IPL 2024 is likely to be played between March 22 and the end of May.
