The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have bagged one of the most expensive players ever in IPL auction history! In fact, for some time, he was the costliest ever until the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) swooped in for Rishabh Pant at Rs 27 crore. As for Iyer, he got Rs 26.75 crore from PBKS, who had a mountainous IPL auction purse of Rs 110.50 crore.
Shreyas Iyer’s message for PBKS
“Hello everyone. Elated to join the Punjab Kings (PBKS) family. I can’t wait to kickstart the new season. Looking forward.,” said Shreyas Iyer in his video for the PBKS fans.
Ponting on Iyer
“I haven’t spoken to him (Shreyas Iyer about captaincy) yet, I tried to call him before the auction but he didn’t pick up. He’s been a successful captain in IPL before, I worked with him 3for -4 years in Delhi and he was the championship winner last season. I’m delighted to work with him again, if he can do that for us in the IPL I’ll be pretty happy,” said newly made PBKS coach Ricky Ponting. This also means the reunion of Ponting and Iyer, who were the skipper and coach at the Delhi Capitals. The duo even took the franchise to the IPL 2020 Final, where they lost against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
