Jos Buttler started the proceedings slowly as he scored at a run-a-ball rate. He took time to settle in the middle and lost his partner Yashasvi Jaiswal within the powerplay. He broke the shackles by hitting leg-spinner Mayank Markande for a six in the 9th over, which was his first big hit in the innings.
From then on he shifted the gears and toyed with the SRH bowlers, finding boundaries regularly. He soon reached his fifty off 32 deliveries in the 12th over of the innings. Along with Sanju, he decimated the bowlers as the duo went on to share 138 runs for the second wicket.
At the 16th over, Buttler slammed three boundaries off Bhuvneshwar Kumar and reached the 90s. He was looking all set to register his maiden ton this season.
However he succumbed to the pressure in the nervous nineties. In the 19th over, he missed a yorker from Bhuvneshwar Kumar that hit his pads. While the on-field decision was not out, the decision had to be changed after a review and Buttler had to walk back missing out on a century.

With his dismissal in the 90s, he is now fifth in the list of most 90s in the IPL. He had a chance to equal Chris Gayle’s tally of six tons in the IPL, which is the most by any player so far in the history of the league. But it was not to be achieved tonight by Buttler. His knock of 95 helped Rajasthan Royals post a commanding 214 on the board.
