RR vs LSG: Dhruv Jurel: MS Dhoni – Finishing games is not everyone’s cup of tea unless your name is MS Dhoni. Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel, who has been entrusted with this role, got some valuable advice from the best finisher in the game himself. Jurel met his hero Dhoni after the Royals’ match against CSK, spoke about getting the job in the final stages of the innings. Dhoni did not mince words and told “It’s a thankless job, there are more failures than success.” Follow RR vs LSG & IPL 2023 Live Updates with InsideSport.IN.
“He told me, ‘It’s a thankless job, there are more failures than successes, so don’t think much. The only good thing about being a finisher is that you expect the worst and prepare accordingly. Not every day you can finish the match,” Dhoni shared.
RR vs LSG: Was Dhruv Jurel entrusted with the role of finisher from the onset by the Royals?
With the likes of Padikkal, Jasiwal, Sanju Samson, and Parag in the RR lineup, Jurel had no choice but to bat as a finisher. The youngster did not flinch one bit walking into the role, rather the right-hand batter was happy to just get an opportunity in the playing XI.
“I knew that at some stage of the tournament, I am going to play, but where, when, and what would be my role I was not told anything. I was just waiting for one opportunity and wanted to do well,” he told The Indian Express.
How did Jurel fare so far as a finisher
The Under-19 star has so far done well as the finisher of RR. In the very first game against PBKS, the wicketkeeper batter kept the Royals’ hope of finishing the match alive by stroking an unbeaten 32 off just 15 balls. Came in as an impact player, Jurel displayed aggressiveness, cheekiness, and street smartness to almost pull off a heist. Alas, the Royals fell short, but Jurel earned a lot of plaudits for his batting. In the second game against DC, Jurel walked into a slightly different situation as the situation demanded him to tee off from ball one while setting a target.
Jurel smoked a six off the first ball and later, against GT, scored a 10-ball 18, which included a sublime six of Shami in the penultimate over of the run chase. Against LSG, Jurel would like to continue his fine touch as a finisher and try to make MS Dhoni proud.
