The incident happened during the last ball of the third over in the innings. Buttler had already smashed Umesh Yadav for 12 runs in five balls by hitting a four and a six. In the last ball of the over, Umesh bowled a fullish delivery outside the off-stump that was hit towards point forcefully by Buttler.
Venkatesh Iyer sprinted towards the ball in order to save some runs and dived in front of the boundary to stop the ball hitting the ropes. He was successful in his attempt but Buttler and Padikkal was too good as the duo ran four runs.

However it was not easy as Buttler had to put in the dive to get into the crease, before wicket-keeper Sheldon Jackson collected Venkatesh’s throw and broke the stumps.
Simon Doull who was commentating on air during the four-run steal by the Rajasthan Royals batters said, “Goodness me, Butler’s run four. Don’t know if the umpires are checking but it doesn’t matter doest it? Don’t worry about checking, they’ve run four.”
The opening duo stitched together a 97-run opening stand. While Padikkal got out for 24, Buttler went on to score a century, which is his second of the season. Buttler scored 103 off 61 deliveries as RR posted 217/5 on the board.
