Rajasthan Royals (RR) interim captain Riyan Parag has confirmed that Sanju Samson won’t feature in the starting XI against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The batter won’t be able to keep the wickets in the first three matches for RR and so has decided that he won’t lead the team. It was expected that Samson would play as an impact substitute player, and Parag has confirmed it as well.
Sanju Samson to play as impact sub player
After Parag won the toss at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, the all-rounder decided that RR would chase. “Bowling first. Looks like a dry wicket, so we’ll have a crack at it later,” Parag said at the toss.
“Sanju Samson will be the Impact Player,” the interim RR captain stated when asked whether Samson would be an immediate starter.
What RR captaincy means to Riyan Parag
Parag then talked about being trusted with the captaincy and shared how it’s a special moment, as he’s been playing for RR for the last seven years. “(On captaincy) Means a lot; I started here as a 17-year-old. Getting to fill in big shoes, very excited,” Parag said.
No place for Wanindu Hasaranga
Shockingly, RR aren’t playing Wanindu Hasaranga, the only proper all-rounder they have. He has instead opted for Maheesh Theekshana, Jofra Archer, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Shimron Hetmyer.
Knowing the history here, it is about restricting them to under 200 if possible. We’ve retained a lot of our core, so that helps with the batting order. The other three overseas will be Theekshana, Jofra, and Farooqi. Always go well; start well, we have practiced a lot,” Parag said at the toss.
