Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has been fined for maintaining a slow-over rate against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. RR beat CSK by 6 runs to open their account in IPL 2025 on Sunday. On Saturday, MI captain Hardik Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakhs for the same offence committed in the game against GT.
Riyan Parag fined for slow-over rate
“As this was his (Parag) team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Parag was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” an IPL press release read.
Hardik had earned a one-match ban after being penalized for the offence thrice in IPL 2024. This led to the MI captain missing the team’s IPL 2025 opener. However, the rules have changed this time around and there are no more bans.
Slow-over rate rules in IPL 2025
- Captains will no longer face match bans for slow over-rate offences.

- A Level 1 offence will lead to demerit points, while a Level 2 offence will attract four demerit points
What happened in RR vs CSK match?
Riyan Parag and co. were asked to bat first after losing the toss. After losing Jaiswal early, Nitish Rana and Samson went berserk against the bowlers. Rana slammed the second-fastest half-century in IPL 2025. He continued to trouble the bowlers with his vicious hits while Sanju anchored at the other end.
Samson departed after scoring 20 runs as Noor Ahmed struck. Nitish, who managed to score 81, was outfoxed by the age-old Dhoni & Ashwin combo. That triggered a collapse for RR. Eventually, they finished with 182 runs at the end of 20 overs.
However, CSK failed to chase to it down as they lost by 6 runs.
